This relatable adviser is the guiding light set to illuminate the path to higher education for our Upper School students. Steven Scales joined St. Francis in 2017 with nearly a decade of college counseling experience.

Mr. Scales received his master’s degree in education from Harvard University, where he trained in school leadership, educational testing, economics of colleges and universities, and financial resource management for nonprofits. His career in college counseling began on a high note at Episcopal High School when he was named a top 10 finalist for the Naviance Excellence in Leadership Award, which recognizes leaders in education who are preparing students for college and beyond.

If so, then Kathryn Spinelli's years as a St. Francis Spanish teacher—and today as assistant head of admissions—stand as the biggest compliment of all. A school alumna herself, Ms. Spinelli says she was fortunate to have wonderful teachers at St. Francis and The Kinkaid School growing up. “I wanted to make a difference in children's lives just as those teachers did in mine," she explains.
